Ask questions, that’s how we learn.

Here are some questions I was asked today at the studio.  We encourage our clients to ask questions, because that’s the only way we learn!  Be an expert on how to fuel your body.  Learn, read and ask questions. You are what you eat and more importantly what you put into your body dictates how you look and feel.

Should I skip breakfast to save calories?

NO. Bad idea. Don’t do it! Think of breakfast as your first chance to set the day out right.  You want to start the day off with a serving of complex carbohydrate, lean protein and healthy fat (the big 3). One quick sample breakfast to hit all those requirements:

Oatmeal and eggs.

I have a bowl of raisin bran with skim milk for breakfast.  That’s healthy, right?

A bowl of cereal won’t cut it.  Think Raisin bran is healthy? Guess again.  Look at those raisins that are covered in sugar (which is why they taste so good…).

Should I try to eat low fat foods?

Don’t fear fat.  The fat we want to get rid of is the fat on your body and unhealthy fat from your diet.  Healthy fat sources that are important to include in your diet come from food like: fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, olive oil and natural nut butters.  Yes ‘Snackwell’ crackers, brownies, cakes and cookies were all the rage in the 90’s but don’t think low fat means calorie free, unfortunately it does not.  (I know…I was a fan of those vanilla Snackwell cookies too….)
